Objective:

Velocity is seeking a Senior Technical Systems Manager UNIX/Linux to serve as a key individual contributor on an existing team. Ideal candidates are extremely customer-focused, well organized, technically advanced and possess significant experience with private, public and hybrid cloud environments,. Successful candidates will have ten plus years of relevant work experience installing, maintaining , configuring and troubleshooting a variety of systems and applications software in a multi-tenant environment, as well as managing technical engineers/administrators responsible for troubleshooting integration between multiple applications and databases on different servers and across data centers. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

As a Senior Technical Systems Manager UNIX/Linux you will lead a team responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server and storage components. You will be responsible for a rapidly growing platform of advanced server architectures composed of physical and virtualized systems, Your team will be responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, availability and integrity of our critical infrastructure while providing industry leading support to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities include developing efficient and functional frameworks, strategies, policies, processes, and technology blueprints for server systems. This includes;

  • driving initiatives that are; based on business requirements, technically and financially sound, communicated to key stakeholders, and refreshed as technologies and business needs change.

  • define strategies with business partners and operation teams to ensure roadmaps are aligned.

  • work with other technical management teams to enable knowledge sharing and alignment of standards.

  • assist in defining best practices for efficient and secure management of the Velocity’s clouds (public/private).

You must be able to independently manage your work, create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshoot complex systems, and manage staff.

Duties:

  • Successful candidate will have to manage Velocity Projects assigned to division and ensure that projects deliverables are met.

  • Successful candidates will be responsible for a rapidly growing platform of advanced server architectures (Linux/AIX/Solaris/Other UNIX/), physical and virtualized systems,

  • Successful candidate will have to manage Velocity ITIL based Ticketing Queue and ensure that Velocity Tickets (Incidents, Changes, Problem and Tasks) are addressed within stated SLAs.

  • Successful candidate will have to manage escalations and provide resolutions per Velocity Stated parameters.

  • Successful candidate will have to manage critical incidents and Root Cause Analysis within Velocity defined timeline.

  • Successful candidate will have to host or participate in meetings (internal, customer and vendor) to represent interest of Velocity Division.

  • Successful candidate will have to participate in Review Boards (Architecture and Technical) and represent interest of Velocity Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for the design, build, delivery, and support of server and storage solutions for our Cloud Computing platform.

  • Research, identify, test, and certify technology products required for server and storage solutions. Participate in selection of server and storage technologies and products.

  • Define Linux/Unix server standards for production and non-production environments with both large and very large enterprise footprints.

  • Architect fault-tolerant, high-availability, and Disaster Recovery solutions for 24x7 system uptime.

  • Define and validate backup / recovery strategies to ensure system recoverability.

  • Design server and storage system security policies in compliance with SOX/SSAE-16/SOC guidelines, government regulations, and consumer privacy standards / best practices.

  • Document, maintain and improve standards, processes, and best practices for server design, storage architectures, and implementation management.

  • Enforce server and storage design, security, and deployment standards and procedures.

  • Display confidence and provide outstanding customer service.

  • Mentor, train, develop staff

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and consulting services as needed

Knowledge and Essential Skills:

  • Expertise within Linux based operating systems including CentOS, RedHat, Oracle Linux. Strong kernel tuning - Strong shell scripting.

  • Expertise within Storage technologies including 3PAR, EMC, iSilon, Data Domain, Compellent, Pure Storage, IBM XIV and SVC

  • Expertise with Configuration Management and Automation Technologies including Puppet, SaltStack, Ansible

  • Expertise with troubleshooting complex problem covering multiple layers of virtualization, operating system, database, storage and backup.

  • Expertise with analyzing complex architecture to identify and troubleshoot performance issues with sound understanding of performance analysis, network bandwidth speed, CPU cache, hard disks, etc.

  • Fundamental understanding of networking, firewall and connectivity concepts. Citrix a plus.

  • Experience with enterprise grade Backup technologies such as Symantec NetBackup

  • Experience with Nagios based monitoring

  • Experience with Database technologies including Microsoft SQL, Oracle, DB2, MySQL and PostgreSQL

  • Experience with design and Architecture solutions to meet complex business requirement or process.

  • Expertise within bare-metal setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of enterprise class rack-mount and blade server

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Expertise within Windows based operating systems including Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2, Windows XP/7/8.

  • Expertise within VMware technologies including, vSphere ESXi Server (4.x, 5.x and 6.x), vCenter Server (5.x, 6.x), vSphere Operations Management, NSX, vSAN, SRM, vRealize Suite, vCloud Suite, Horizon, Converter (P2V / V2V).

  • Expertise within Microsoft HyperV and Systems Center Virtual Machine Manager

  • Expertise within Active Directory (AD) network services, AD Certificate Services, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy Management.

  • Expertise within Microsoft-oriented and VMware scripting languages and technologies (e.g. VBScript, PowerShell, WMI, ADSI, PowerCLI).

  • Experience supporting systems running Oracle eBusiness Suite or JDE EnterpriseOne

Experience:

  • 10+ years Enterprise Server Systems (Linux, UNIX, Solaris) in large environments.

  • 10+ years Enterprise Storage Systems (SAN, NAS, and Backup)

  • 5+ years Virtualization technologies (large Linux clusters)

  • Enterprise Backup / Restore (Netbackup, deduplication, compression, near-line)

  • 24x7 production support in fast-paced environments
